Inspired by the example of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and marking the 80th anniversary of his death, Londinium celebrates the resilience of the human spirit. Bonhoeffer's words are heard in two moving works by Alec Roth, alongside Edith Cavell's reflections on the eve of her execution as set by Cecilia McDowall, an anguished plea by Byrd for his fellow Catholics, and Joubert's reflective response to St Augustine. We find renewed hope in music by Bach, Elgar, and Ben Parry, before works by Morales, Pēteris Vasks and Bernard Hughes bring our programme to a life-affirming conclusion.
St John's Waterloo is opposite Waterloo Station. Tickets include a complimentary programme, and wine will be served in the interval.
